Perfusionist (Heart-Lung Machine)
Your morning begins at 7:30 AM in a cardiac surgery OT, priming the cardiopulmonary bypass circuit for a complex triple-vessel CABG procedure — carefully preparing the oxygenator, checking gas line connections, and calibrating flow sensors before the surgery begins. During the 4-hour bypass run, you monitor arterial pressure, blood oxygen saturations, temperature, and ACT readings every 5 minutes, adjusting pump flow and vasoactive drug delivery in coordination with the cardiac surgeon.
